BRADFORD ROYAL INFIRMARY
BRADFORD
The ambulance arrived at Bradford royal infirmary accident and emergency where we were met by the requested crash team who took over from the paramedics that had worked so hard on me both at home and through out the journey the crash team commenced heart compression's and are pumping air to my lungs i am rushed in to the
resuscitation suite were once again was placed on oxygen to assist me with my breathing i am rushed in to the resuscitation suite were once again I was placed on oxygen to assist me with my breathing and wired up to monitors to monitor my pulse and my heart rate i have being given a chest x-ray to try and work out why i am in the state i am the x-rays have revealed I have double pneumonia my mother is shown the
x-rays my lungs are cloudy and completely full of fluid were healthy lungs are clear the doctors have decided to insert two chest drains to drain some of the fluid and make it easier for myself to breath when I was well enough and my breathing is more stable i am moved to cubicles in the accident and emergency department to wait to
be admitted I am still using a mask to help with my breathing even thought my lungs are draining after a while I was found a bed on the general admissions ward i was placedon a trolley to allow a porter to take me up to the general admissions the following morning i was informed by the doctors that i needed a echo
cardiogram a scan of the heart valves to see how they are working and functioning the results are not good I have a ab-sis on the aortic valve and are rushed to the intensive care unit and placed on a ventilator on intensive care unit my mother was informed and asked to get all the family due to the fact i may not last the night out i am critically ill i need open heart surgery if the ab-sis bursts it will certainly kill me but the surgeons say i am to to critically ill to carry out the operation needed without mortality the chances of survival are 99 to 1 the one been the change of survival the doctors have decided to try to eliminate the infection by removing my
teeth that are largely rotten and could be the source of the infection I am placed on strong IV antibiotics after the procedure which has not been successful the infection was still there the antibiotics clear up the infection but there is a downside the infection returns when the antibiotics are withdrawn the odds on me surviving are very slim i am to ill to survive open heart surgery but without surgery the Assisi will burst and is almost likely to kill me and the chances of surviving of myself surviving open heart surgery are very slim but due to the fantastic negotiating skills of doctor Balu and doctor Balu calling in a favour i am offered a place on Mr Coles surgery list at Castle Hill Hospital in Hull a cardiac centre in hull on the day before my operation I was rapped in blankets by the staff on intensive care to prepare me for my journey to Castle Hill Hospital the doctors and nurses that had cared for me on intensive care had said there goodbyes as there is very littlechance of myself coming back to Bradford alive a cardiac crash trolley was placed in the ambulance
in case my heart fails during the journey i was dispatched with blue lights and two police out riders to escort the ambulance and finally a res-ponder ambulance car carrying a cardiac crash team just in the case of my heart failing during thejourney to Castle Hill to every one's amazement not least the doctors and nurses on intensive care after a period of tine in Hull I arrive back to Bradford with a beard which my mum ordered the staff to remove I am placed in to a induced coma and placed on a ventilator to give my heart and body time to recover from the operation the time each day on the
ventilator is reduced daily so you become less reliant on the ventilator and breath more independently with your breathing after a period in the induced coma the doctors decided to bring me out of the coma but I do not respond to the reversal drug there is now a good chance that I will never come out of the coma eventuality to everybody's amazement I come out of the coma when I am well enough and stronger I am transferred to highdependency this is a ward were you are not given one to one nursing but still need to be monitored closely when I am stable enough to not need monitoring I am transferred to the stroke ward I am having full conversations with myself and visitors that are not even there i have padded cot sides due to fact I am thrashing around on the bed and are in place to stop myself to preventing injuring myself the staff are having to feed me all my meals the worse thing is on night I screaming as walls seem to be closing in on me an going out again continuously after a lengthy period of intensive therapy every day Monday to Friday I am now able to feed myself and when well enough I am transferred to the stroke rehabilitation unit at Saint Luke's in Bradford to continue with my rehabilitation
